About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Georgie. I am a qualified Humanistic Counsellor offering face-to-face sessions to adults 18+ at Pure Alternative Therapy in Alton and The Eaves in Godalming. I also offer sessions online.

I have had a few different lives before re-training to be a Counsellor – in the creative arts, in education and a more corporate role. These experiences have challenged me in different ways, but what I have valued most is the variety of people I have met along the way; I am endlessly curious about people and their stories. Each of us is a complicated mix of where we have come from and our unique life experiences. Multifaceted and fascinating. Being a human can be messy and we are essentially all just doing our best to get by, within the unique set of circumstances we find ourselves. This is what has led me to this work and of course the desire to do something rewarding and meaningful.

I have a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling from the University of Chichester. Person Centred theory lies at the heart of my approach, which means that you decide what you bring to each session and I offer you the core conditions of empathy, acceptance and genuineness. My training also allows me to draw on a breadth of other Humanistic approaches including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Attachment Theory.

I have experience working with a wide range of client issues including – anxiety, panic attacks, bereavement, family dynamics and relational issues, low self-esteem, adjusting to life changes and feeling stuck.

I am committed to a lifetime of personal development and learning and am about to embark on a further training qualification with Relate, so that I can work with couples. I am passionate about keeping my skills and training up to date, attending workshops and courses as often as I can. I’m a big fan of audible and podcasts on the go. As a registered member of the BACP, I adhere to their ethical framework, and I have regular supervision to support my counselling practice.

Practice description

Therapy allows us a safe space to take the time to delve deeper, learn more about ourselves and our patterns. Perhaps the coping strategies that have served us well up to now need an overhaul. Letting go can feel liberating and we are left feeling empowered, resilient and more connected.

As a qualified Humanistic Counsellor, I believe that we all have the power to make our lives better, but there are times when we may need to seek some help. I would like to offer you a safe space to explore what’s going on for you, offering my warmth and acceptance, so that you feel seen and heard. My aim as your Counsellor is to help you develop greater self awareness, understand how your past can impact your present and empower you to make changes that really make a difference.

I believe the therapeutic relationship can be deeply healing and I look forward to working with you to find a way forward. I work with adults 18+ and offer short term or long term counselling to meet your needs.

My first session

Once you’ve made the decision to start therapy, making that first step can be daunting. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours, so you won’t be left waiting. This is what will happen if you make an enquiry:

I will offer you a free 20 min consultation via Zoom/Teams, so that I can understand what brings you to Counselling and also so that we can both decide whether we think we can work together. The Counselling process is collaborative and feeling comfortable with your therapist is essential. We are all so different and what suits one person, might not suit another. I won’t be offended if you decide me or my approach isn’t for you. Honest! It’s also important that what you are bringing is within the limits of my expertise. Some client issues need specialist help. If this is the case I will do my best to signpost you to get the help you need.

If we both decide we’d like to proceed I will book our first session. We will decide on a time to meet at the same time each week. Sessions are 50 mins. I work with clients at Pure Alternative Therapy in Alton and The Eaves in Godalming. I also work online.

At the start of our first session we will talk through my contract together and we’ll both sign. This isn’t a lengthy document, but important to make you aware of confidentiality and the exceptions, data protection etc. We will also establish a goal for our work together. This is something that we will keep checking in on throughout the process, with a review at six weeks. The length of the process is up to you and we will work towards an ending when you feel you are ready to. Each process is entirely different, with some clients wanting short term therapy and others wishing to work longer term. Sometimes it isn’t clear until we get started.
