About me and my therapy practice

The way I work with clients can best be described as Pluralistic, which is more a philosophy of therapy, rather than a technique or particular school of thought. Pluralism is a person-centred, humanistic, integrative approach to counselling, which holds to certain basic principles and assumptions:

First, you, the client, are the expert on you and your problem and my first job is to seek to understand.

Second, that your aims for the counselling are the priority. Different clients want different things from counselling, and at the heart of my practice is the desire to help you to realise, articulate and achieve your goals.

Thirdly, there are many different ways of helping you achieve what you want, and we will work together to figure out which interventions you prefer and are going to work best for you.

Practice description

Looking-Glass Counselling is my private practice, established since February 2014.  Up on the Great Orme, overlooking Llandudno, away from the stresses and hassles of everyday life, I have a large, comfortable therapy room, a safe, private, calm and relaxed space, a sanctuary, where I'll work with you to understand what's really bothering you and what you can do about it. By the end of your FREE 30 minute Introduction Session, you'll be able to make an informed choice whether and how you want to take things forward.

My first session

I offer a FREE 30 minute Introduction Session, which is a chance for you to talk with me, find out more about the counselling and how I work, and see whether you think I'm someone you'll feel comfortable talking to.

I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have and we'll talk briefly about your reasons for seeking counselling and what you want to get out of it.  

There's absolutely no pressure on you to make any decisions during this session, or any obligation on you to take things any further if you don't want to.

If you're feeling aprehensive about talking to a counsellor, or you're not sure if counselling is for you, then I hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity to "dip your toe in" and see how it feels!

Due to the frequently changing "lockdown" restrictions, I may not be able to offer face-to-face sessions at my place of work (please see my website for updates), but I have expanded my Online Counselling services, to include Video, Audio-only, Live Chat and Email Counselling.  

Online Counselling has been shown in studies to be as effective as face-to-face counselling and has many advantages. For example, you can access counselling from the comfort of your own home, you can decide whether you want to speak or to use text or email, and, if you want to, you can remain anonymous.  

In the technological world we live in many of us are more comfortable communicating via messaging and email than over the phone or face-to-face, so many people who might feel too apprehensive about attending counselling can access the help and support they need in ways they feel more comfortable with.  Please visit my website for more information.
