About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor, registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I offer both short- and long-term counselling.
Integrative counselling means that I will draw from a variety of different therapeutic techniques to create an environment that is right for you. The main reason people come to therapy is that they want to be heard and understood. Often, people can feel they have no right to express themselves and their voice is silenced. I want to hear your voice.
I work with a broad range of complex issues including trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, and self-harm.
I have spent over two years offering face-to-face and telephone counselling, supporting people affected by the deaths of siblings and parents, traumatic bereavements, and unexpected deaths.
I have experience in menopause, and the complexities of the menstrual cycle, disassociation and depression. I understand the mind and body of a woman. I understand its connections.
I have also worked with adolescents struggling with systemic family issues, exam pressure, inability to connect with the world, issues with their sexuality, long-term illness and suicidal ideation.
I understand life and all its complications. I’ve been married and divorced. I’ve grieved the death of those closest to me and celebrated the arrival of new life. I’ve been fiercely independent and I’ve been disempowered. I’ve got things right and I’ve got things wrong. I didn’t learn these issues from a book, I felt them and lived them. This is what makes me the therapist I am today.
My first session
When you come and see me, you will be in a room with someone you can trust. I am not here to teach you. I want you to teach yourself. I want you to nurture yourself. I’m not here to give you power. I’m here to help you find your own power and use it. I value independence, freedom, integrity, honesty, transparency, kindness, warmth, power and love.
I won’t patronise you or be disrespectful.
I won’t judge you or offer platitudes.
I will challenge you. Will you challenge yourself?
