About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully insured and CRB checked  Humanistic Integrative Counsellor. I work with young people aged 14-18 and Adults of all ages. I also work as a weight loss coach offering one on one sessions exploring client’s difficulties with food and body.

I offer 50 minute face to face sessions from a dedicated therapy space in Hassocks West Sussex, easily accessible from Brighton, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and other surrounding areas. I also offer on-line therapy sessions via zoom if that is your preference.

I also work as a Food Relationship coach offering face to face and on-line sessions to people who wish to improve their relationship with food.

I am happy to work with you for a fixed short term contract of 6 weeks or a longer term contract if you would prefer. It is entirely up to you how you want to progress, this can be discussed in our first session and of course, nothing is set in stone!

I will check in with you at regular intervals throughout your therapeutic journey. This gives us the opportunity to evaluate your on-going experience and a chance to introduce various ways of working.

Undertaking therapy is a personal choice and no two people have the same therapeutic experience. It is my job to facilitate you to explore your issues in the safest way possible for you. You are the expert on you, with this in mind I will work with you respectfully, gently and considerately.

Practice description

I work with my clients in a collaborative way using tools acquired from the Humanistic therapeutic models of Transactional Analysis (TA), Gestalt and Person Centred counselling. These models share the idea that the client is the expert in their own life challenges. I also work using Egan’s Skilled Helper Model, Compassion Focussed Therapy, CBT and Solution Focussed Therapy.

It is my belief that every person has the ability to create a better, more authentic life for themselves, to reach deep within and heal old wounds that are holding them back from their full potential. Successful therapy depends primarily on the quality of the relationship between client and therapist. As a humanistic counsellor it is my aim to provide you with a safe and confidential environment where you can talk openly without fear of criticism or judgement about the issues that are important to you.

I have a wealth of experience working with people from all walks of life. I worked for over twenty years as a Nurse for the NHS and I believe I bring my own rich and varied life experience to my therapeutic practice. Due to my own life challenges I accessed therapy for the first time in my twenties. Therapy has played a huge part in my own journey towards self-acceptance and self-compassion.

Alongside my work as a Humanistic integrative counsellor, where I offer my clients short and long term General therapy for a wide variety of issues, behaviours and feelings I also offer weight loss coaching to people who struggle with their relationship with food and body. Counselling and coaching are very different, as a weight loss coach I work in a more directive and problem solving way, please visit my website for more detail.

My first session

Finding the right therapist is extremely important as you need to feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. Therefore I offer a 30 minute introductory session free of charge via phone or zoom, this gives us the chance to get to know each other and for you to get a feel for how I work. We can then decide whether we'd like to work together. During this first session we will explore what you would like from therapy and how I can help you. I will fill in an assessment by asking you some questions, but mostly listening to what you want to bring.
