About me and my therapy practice

My experience is that exploring together therapeutically can be a creative, relieving and freeing process. I’d like to help you to discover more choice in how you respond to situations and more room for movement in those places where you get stuck. Together we can recognise and engage the resources you have, to find a way through whatever is troubling you. Even when life feels difficult, our meeting together can be a nourishing experience, so that more becomes possible.

A little about my approach

I like to accompany people by giving attention to what most wants expression right now and noticing what happens as we do this. I can help you to listen more closely and with kindness to your experience, because possibilities open up from here. I find this is best supported by paying attention to present experience, including what is naturally being expressed through the body. I trust this is more fruitful and informative than working hard to try to figure things out. It gets below the rounds of thinking you have probably got caught in if you’re struggling.

Together, we can better understand your particular ways of responding or trying to cope, which may be limiting and causing pain, both for yourself and those around you. We can bring awareness to more of your experience, to recognise and respect even contrasting parts within yourself, or aspects that have been too difficult to so far include.

I would like to support you to feel closer to yourself, more resourced and steady, and able to connect in ways which are more deeply satisfying.

Practice description

My influences
My meeting with people is inspired and greatly resourced by a few key influences. These are Hakomi (a mindfulness-based, somatic psychotherapy), Focusing and Zen Buddhism.

Hakomi and Focusing both recognise the clarity that we can all find within our own experiencing. Both see the practitioner as someone who accompanies you closely to find a receptive connection with yourself and to follow it.

Hakomi is a very creative way of exploring what is already naturally being expressed, beyond the words we use, which is often outside of awareness and not attended to. When we include listening to the body, we have ready access to better understand what we are doing that limits possibilities. Once we become aware of what we do habitually, then we open the way to more choice in how we respond to life and more satisfying experiences and connections.

Where I work
I work from a room on the Dartington Hall Estate near Totnes, or online.

My first session

I offer a free first session for 30 minutes, which gives us an opportunity to meet and have a first sense of what might be possible together. After this you can take your time to decide if you’d like to give it a try.

Whatever you are experiencing, if you are interested to make contact, I would like to hear from you.

with my good wishes

Rah
