About me and my therapy practice

I have been working as an integrative therapist for the past five years. I chose to study integrative therapy, as I wanted to study a wide range of approaches to help me understand human experience and human difficulties.

I'm particularly interested in understanding your relationships with family, friends, colleagues and partners and also the relationship you have with yourself.

I am interested in your upbringing, what kind of environment you grew up in and who took care of you during this time, as your early years and experiences will have shaped you, your attitudes and your views on life and also your view of yourself.

Often, experiences that we have been through in the past, will continue to impact upon us in the present, so exploring the past and finding new perspectives can be the key to freeing us from old, unhelpful patterns.

In exploring different aspects of your life and your experiences, we will work together to make sense of your problems and find news ways of living more authentically.

Prior to completing my training as a therapist, I worked in the charity sector for ten years as a support worker, working with homeless people, people with mental health issues, drug, alcohol and gambling addictions and in the women's sector, with women who had experienced domestic abuse.

Practice description

I will work with whatever issues you choose to bring to our sessions but I have a particular interest in working with anxiety, bereavement, loss and the existential questions around finding meaning and purpose in our lives.  This in turn, will help you to understand issues more clearly, to help you make your own meaning and live your life more authentically.

My first session

After you have contacted me, we will arrange a brief phone conversation so I can get at a sense of what you're looking for and then we can arrange a first session.  I will also email you some information about my practice, which will cover confidentiality and other relevant information.

Our first session will give us both an opportunity to meet and for you to tell me more about yourself, what issues have brought you to therapy and what you're looking to gain from sessions.

I will ask you quite a few questions about your upbringing, your family and your relationships, which will help me to understand you and your experiences and help me to put your difficulties into context.  You can also ask me any questions about how I work and I will tell you how think I can help you.

Towards the end of the session, we will decide if we want to continue working together or if you'd prefer to have some time to think about it, you're welcome to do so and contact me later with your decision.
