About me and my therapy practice

Relationships with humans can be difficult and we have many different relationships, all happening at the same time. Relationships with family, partners, friends, colleagues and with ourselves. We relate to everything in the world around us in one way or another.

Sometimes relationships can feel easy and bring us joy and contentment and at other times they can feel really difficult and destructive.

There is often constant tension between meeting our own needs and the needs of the people around us.  It can be stressful and at times, feel impossible trying to find a balance between the two.

The expectations of others can often be in conflict with our own values and sense of autonomy.

And of course, relationships can end, sometimes through our own choice but often through the choices of others or through circumstances such as death, which can bring up very mixed and overwhelming emotions.

Having a weekly therapy space to talk and make sense of your experiences, can really help you to find new ways of living and being in the world, make sense of your emotions and make changes in your life.

I welcome people from the LGBTQIA+ community and people who are ethnically and culturally diverse.

My first career was in television production, working as a researcher on light entertainment programmes.

Practice description

I will work with whatever issues you choose to bring to our sessions but I have a particular interest in working with family issues, relationship issues, bereavement and how you make meaning in your life and whether you’re living your life in a way that feels authentic.

I welcome people and relationships from the LGBTQIA+ community.

I only work with individuals and not couples.

My first session

After you have contacted me, we will arrange a free 10-15 minute  phone call so I can get at a sense of what you're looking for from sessions and whether my way of working is what you're looking for, then we can arrange a first session.  I will then email you to confirm our initial session appointment along with further information about my practice, which will cover confidentiality, cancellations and other relevant information.

Our first session will give us both an opportunity to meet and for you to tell me more about yourself, what issues have brought you to therapy and what you're looking to gain from sessions.

I will ask you questions about your upbringing, your family and your relationships, which will help me to understand you and your experiences and help me to put your difficulties into context.  You can also ask me any questions about how I work and I will tell you how think I can help you.

Towards the end of the session, we will decide if we want to continue working together or if you'd prefer to have some time to think about it, you're welcome to do so and contact me later with your decision.
