About me and my therapy practice

I am empathetic, I am curious about who you are and I will also challenge you to explore and be curious about yourself.

Therapy can be enlightening, life changing and tough so I encourage you to find a therapist who you want to share yourself with.

The modality of counselling I practice is Transactional Analysis and I incorporate the 3 fundamental philosophies of TA:

-People are OK.  This means that everyone has worth, value and dignity.  I accept myself as me and I accept you as you.

-Everyone has the capacity to think and therefore, we can all take responsibility to decide what we want from life.

-Each of us is responsible for our own feelings and behaviour and we can make decisions.  Therefore, we can decide to change.

I may include a little psycho-education in my sessions which can be beneficial in helping you understand why you might think, feel and do the things you do.

I have a certificate in the therapeutic use of person centred creative arts and when appropriate, and with your consent, I like to work creatively; drawing diagrams, using objects, pictures, timelines, genograms and other tools to help clients explore and express themselves.

I am an approved therapist for Anxiety UK.

Having a safe, confidential and regular space to be listened to, where you can talk freely, without judgement and without shame can be disconcerting and liberating too.

Practice description

I offer one to one counselling from a dedicated space in my home located in the heart of Faversham.

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the same time and initially, every week.

After 4-6 weeks we have a short review where we discuss the direction of therapy, frequency of sessions and anticipated total number of sessions needed.  This is reviewed again at regular intervals.

My first session

This is an opportunity for you to tell me your story and talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like to get out of therapy and your expectations.

The first session is about 10 minutes longer than usual so that we can cover a bit of admin to include our therapy contract, safeguarding, confidentiality and how therapy works.

I shall listen and question to clarify and gain the necessary information to complete an assessment about your situation and make sure I am understanding you and that you feel understood.

It is when we begin to establish our therapeutic relationship and make sure we can work with one another.
