About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes our lives can get in a muddle and it can leave us feeling stressed, anxious, depressed or overwhemlmed. Ofen several of the above all at once!

Sometimes we know where the problem stems from, other times we have no idea (and this can cause stress in itself!).

In counselling we aim to unpick the muddle and help you get to a place where you feel more in control of your life. Counsellors work in many different ways but as a relational counsellor I start by looking at our relationships and interactions with others to help give insight into what might be going on.

I often find people benefit from a two pronged approach and like to help them answer the following questions. 'What can I do right now to feel better?' and 'How can I process some of the things that have happened in my past to enable me to move forward'.

You may have had counselling before but as with all counselling it is important (vital even) to find a therapist you feel comfortable with.

As an 'integrative' therapipst I am trained to work with several different styles/theories of counselling to best suit the client. I firmly believe our past experience shape who we are today and that the happiest people are those who master their relationships (be them romantic, friend, work colleagues, etc).

Practice description

What can you expect from counselling with me?

Every counselling relationship is unique and completely tailored to what you need.

Sometimes you may want to discuss a specific event, other times just try to work through your feelings and unpick some thoughts.

You will hopefully find me warm, welcoming and empathic, While at the same time unafraid to gently challenge and explore our patterns of relating.

I aspire to be genuine and open and offer a non judgemental environment where you feel completely safe to open up.

My first session

It can feel scarey to start counselling. My goal is to put you at ease as quickly as possible.

In the first session we will discuss and agree boundaries on how we will work. I will likely ask you questions to get to know some background information that will help me get a sense of who you are.

You are always in control and what you bring is up to you. Its my job to help you unpick this and gently challenge you where needed in a respectful and non judgmental way.
