About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome, I'm Roisin. I work face to face in rooms close to Sheffield city centre.
Coming to counselling takes courage. Sometimes we don't know why we are feeling low in self-esteem, triggered, or why life may lack meaning.
The process of coming to counselling can help you find hidden parts of yourself, and help you to integrate these so that you feel more whole.
Therapy is a place for you to explore some of the things you’re finding hard to deal with. It’s a place for you to cry, to feel frustrated, sad or angry, and to inhabit those emotions that you may keep closed off or hidden away. It’s a place where we’ll work together to think about how you’ve found yourself in this situation, how you’re feeling now, and what direction you’ll take going forwards.
I know from personal experience both as a client and as a therapist that talking therapy helps many of us feel more connected, more alive, and more able to feel like we can make decisions to steer our lives the way we want it to go.

15 years of working in social care throughout the UK with struggling families, older adults in hospital, and supporting people living on the edges of society.
I have worked as a counsellor in the NHS, working with people who have chronic pain conditions, as well as loss and bereavement, identity and self-worth, and living with trauma.
I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. This means I am trained to work in a way which takes on board different approaches in order to tailor my practice for your needs. The way I work focuses on the here and now, what you are feeling in the present, and I’ll invite you to explore this in different ways, such as using objects, movement or drawing.
I am interested in your past, how you grew up, what your family situation was, and how this may have impacted on you. My counselling approach incorporates psychodynamic perspectives as well as more Humanistic such as Person-Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, as well as CBT. I also work relationally, with what may arise between us.

My first session
I offer a free 25mins phone call, which is an opportunity for you to briefly tell me what you’d like to focus on in your counselling sessions, and for me to consider whether I have the skills to support you.
Your first face to face session is half price at £25, and this is more of an information gathering session, where we can talk about the contract of work we may do together, and what you will need to consider before moving forwards.
It's also an opportunity for you to find out whether you’d like to work with me and whether you feel we are a 'good fit'.
Initially, after you contact me via email, I will send you a follow up email before we decide on a mutually beneficial time and date to talk on the phone.
