About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Jenny, and I am a BACP registered counsellor working with adults in person and online in Edinburgh city centre. I work pluralistically which means tailoring my approach to suit your needs and personality. I offer a safe, supportive, and empathic space to help process any thoughts, feelings or behaviours that are causing you distress. Perhaps you feel disconnected in life or maybe you have a sense that something is not right, whatever it is that’s troubling you, I will help you explore what may lie behind any unanswered questions, as well as support you with any changes you wish to make.
I aspire in creating a safe place for you to be your authentic self without judgement. I believe everyone has their own unique way of telling their story and I will listen carefully to yours. I know from personal experience how daunting it can feel to take that first step, which is why it is always a privilege and honour to work with all my clients.
I have previously worked in the voluntary sector taking GP referrals from clients with a variety of ages, backgrounds, and cultures, and would describe myself as open and accepting of all lifestyles and choices. I hold experience with a broad range of issues including people who have needed support with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationships, and low self-esteem, in addition to a wide range of others. I have personal experience with ADHD and hold an interest in working within this field having attended various workshops and training as well as my own research.

I work within a pluralistic framework which means there is not one fixed way of working as clients are likely to want and benefit from different things. I draw from a variety of effective methods and techniques such as: Person-centred therapy, Integrative, Solution focused therapy, Cognitive behavioural therapy, Psychodynamic, Compassion focused, Acceptance and commitment, Transactional analysis, mindfulness.
I also offer a range of different styles of working, so for example a coaching method might be best suited if you wish to focus on more practical coping skills, or you might prefer a deeper more exploratory method focusing on making sense of past experiences/childhood, looking at attachment styles or patterns and themes that no longer serve you. Alternatively, an unstructured approach may benefit those who prefer to be more organic, allowing topics to come up more naturally.
We will work together to create a shared understanding of what you want out of therapy, and how we might go achieving that, utilizing any existing strengths and resources to guide us.
Together with your preferences and expertise in your own life, combined with my skills, training and experience, we will tailor a way of working that suits you best.
My first session
If after an initial free phone call or online video chat you decide you want to go ahead, the first session is spent gathering information and identifying the main issues. I will give you a copy of my working agreement which gives you more practical information like times of sessions, confidentiality, and general good practice.
