About me and my therapy practice

It can feel difficult to approach a therapist, and also to know what having therapy might be like.  You might be reading this because something in your life has changed, and you are hoping for support to manage your feelings about it. You might have been experiencing difficulty for a long time, or want to come to terms with how your life has been, or things that have happened to you in the past. You may want to get to know yourself better, and understand more about your reactions and responses.

I am an experienced, warm and compassionate Psychotherapist and Counsellor, working in Devizes, North Wiltshire and online, able to work with a variety of issues, whether present or in your past. I work in a trauma informed way, with curiosity and compassion, to build a therapeutic relationship which will enable you to bring yourself and your concerns safely. I will give you space to be heard without judgement, and offer you insight and reflection. I prefer to keep the focus on you in our sessions, and to keep our work in the room.

Like many psychotherapists, I am able to work with a variety of different experiences. I have worked with clients with anxiety, depression, issues of identity, family concerns, and issues with relationships. I am also experienced in working with clients who have experienced adverse life events. I work individually with adults of all ages, either short or long term.

I have worked with clients since 2018, and hold diplomas in Integrative Psychotherapy and Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Metanoia Institute, and an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from Middlesex University.  My training was robust and extensive, and I continue to focus on improving my practice.  I am also a member of and am accredited by UKCP.

My life experience also incudes working in a corporate environment and primary education.

Practice description

The relationship we co-create acts as a foundation for healing. I provide a safe space for you to share your story and for us to explore it without judgement. I work with empathy and compassion, and I believe that the connection will offer both healing and growth.

I trained integratively, which means I have experience in a variety of psychotherapeutic theories. I primarily use relational humanistic approaches, alongside contemporary trauma and psychodynamic approaches. I work in a way which is sensitive to your life experience.  I have also had extensive therapy myself, which supports me to focus only on you in our work. Like all therapists, I have supervision and engage in continuous training.

I work from a calm, therapy room in central Devizes within the Ahead4Therapy office.  My room is on the third floor, and there are toilets available. Water is always available to drink, and please feel free to bring a hot drink with you.

I offer sessions for 50 minutes, usually at the same time every week. I believe it is important that sessions are weekly.

If we agree to work online, I use zoom.

I am registered to work with clients through Aviva, AXA and VitalityHealth.

My first session

When you contact me, I will call or email you to set up a free initial 15 -20 minute phone call, for us to explore how we might work together.  This will give you an opportunity to ask me any questions, and also to tell me a little more about what you are hoping to get from therapy.

If we decide to meet, we will agree a time, and I will send you a copy of my contract for us to discuss when we meet.

In our first session together, we will explore what has brought you to counselling, and explore how we can work together.  If we agree to continue after this initial session, we will agree a number of sessions, usually 6, and a date to review.

If I realise I am unable to work with you at any point, either because there is a boundary concern, or because I feel another therapist might serve you better, I will discuss with you, and offer to make a referral to another therapist.
