Availability

I work flexibly throughout the week, working into the evenings Monday to Thursday.   I am flexible with times and days of appointments and these can be changed to fit around the client’s needs weekly.

I work face to face and online.

I offer discount for students over 18 and I have a couple of spaces for people who are facing financial hardship at concessionary rates.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified EMDR therapist and offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to explore how you are feeling. 

Finding a therapist can feel overwhelming as there are so many of us! But whatever is troubling you, whether you feel it is small or large, we can look at it together. I am open, honest and laid back and provide a safe space to allow you to feel relax.

Starting any therapy can feel daunting, but can help you resolve and understand any challenges or difficulties you may be facing. EMDR can help you process your emotions bringing about positive change in your life. I am down to earth and easy going and will put you at ease, enabling you to open up without feeling under any pressure. 

What is EMDR?

Traumatic experiences in life can remain unprocessed in the brain, becoming “stuck” in the brain’s processing system, causing a person to re-experience distressing events, as if they were occurring in the here and now. This can lead to symptoms like flashbacks, anxiety, PTSD and avoidance behaviours.

EMDR therapy is designed to relieve the distress associated with the traumatic memories by stimulating bilateral brain activity through eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (hand held buzzers).  It helps process the memory and store it in the correct part of the brain. This process is similar to that experienced during the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) stage of the sleep cycle, when the brain naturally processes the days events. EMDR can be used to treat PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, addiction, chronic pain, sexual and/or physical abuse and low self esteem.

The benefits of EMDR therapy are that it has been known to achieve significant progress in a shorter period compared to traditional talk therapy.

Practice description

I work in a confidential space based in Royal Mail House at the bottom of Oxford Street, Southampton.

I am aware of how difficult the first step can be when contacting a therapist for the first time. I will do my best to make this as stress free as possible.

If I am not the right therapist for you, I am happy to help you consider what would be more helpful for you.

My first session

In the first/second meeting we will discuss why you are seeking EMDR therapy, how we can work together and what you hope to get from our sessions. We will then map out your past/timeline and work out how previous life events may be affecting your daily life.  On the following session we will start the EMDR.
