I am flexible in terms of when I can offer therapy.
I can work days and evenings as well as weekends.
Sessions would generally be weekly but time between sessions can be varied to suit your needs.
About me and my therapy practice
A Bit About Me:
I am 50 years of age and married. I live in Ayrshire.
After having overcome some confusing and difficult times myself in terms of depression and anxiety I decided I needed to rethink what was important to me.
That has led me to learn more about Buddhist theory, mindfulness and meditation. I continue to work in social work which is important to me - working with people with mental health difficulties is my specialism in social work. The complexity around well-being rights and protection is an are I find interesting.
I decided to train as a counsellor to offer an alternative and more direct way of supporting people to understand themselves better. I be.I’ve therapy is under utilised as a method of improving mental health and well-being. I am of the view we know ourselves best and what we need us help in finding insight into that.
During the current pandemic I am working online and by telephone. I am comfortable and confident doing this. I will work via text, phone or zoom. I will also hope to be working face to face again very soon generally but if this is absolutely essential to you we can see if this can be arranged.
I am a person centred therapist who is comfortable working with a wide variety of issues. As a male therapist I know it can be difficult foe men often to be open about their thoughts and feelings. I am particularly interested in this area. I think sometimes safe places for men to talk can be hard to find. I offer that.
My experience in mental health means I am confident in terms of experience of such conditions and the impact they have - both in terms of their symptoms and the stigma that is attached to them.
Inevitably my practice will be influenced by mindfulness concepts and ideas. However, I think it essential that my practice be direct and clear - relatable, honest & no scented candles or flowery language!
My first session
I offer an initial session to talk with you and see if we feel we can work together. This will be free.
