About me and my therapy practice
At some point in our lives most of us will experience times when we struggle to cope with relationships or work pressures or feel we have lost control of important parts of our life. It is at times like these that working with a counsellor can help us to understand the causes of our distress and learn techniques to help us see things differently, regain control, feel stronger and happier.
I have a lot of experience of counselling individuals, couples and families. Problems are often caused by poor communication and we can look at techniques to enable you to communicate in a way that avoids conflict and promotes a greater understanding of each other.
If you are depressed or anxious I can work with you as an individual. If you are in a relationship, working with you and your partner can be more effective.
Sadly there are times when the only way forward for some couples is to separate. Together we can find ways to minimise the impact of this, particularly important where there are children involved.
I worked for Samaritans for four years before becoming a relationship counsellor with Relate in 2006. In 2012 I qualified to work with couples where depression is an issue and in 2017 I trained as a family therapist.
I aim to create a caring and non-judgemental place where you will feel safe to talk about difficult thoughts and feelings.
I offer a free brief telephone assessment to see if I am the right person to help you. If you feel happy to proceed, I charge £60 for a one hour session.
Normally I see clients in a dedicated room in my home but during the COVID-19 pandemic I have been seeing clients on Zoom which seems to work well.
My first session
The first session or two are likely to be centred on learning about you and what it is that is troubling you. We will work together to establish a clear focus of what you wish to change and how you can start to move forward to a better place
