About me and my therapy practice
I believe our childhood experiences form who we are in our adult relationships, we carry with us the traumas we experience in our lives, these can manifest themselves as psychological and physiological problems, we have to survive so we bury the unpleasant feelings, they are buried alive and want to get out, we suffer, experiencing anxiety, depression, mental and physical illness, the internal and external voices are overwhelming. Counselling is an opportunity to address these feelings, to sit with emotions that may be unfamiliar.
I know counselling can help because I have seen many individuals break the cycle. You can too.
Every relationship in life is unique and that includes every counsellor/client relationship. If you are on this website then you are looking for someone to help facilitate change.
I believe you have the answers within, my role as counsellor is to help you find your genuine self, for you to gain control over your life and gain assertiveness, meaning you can make decisions that get your needs met, these are the changes that last.
There is not a one size fits all guide to personal growth and development, I do not believe in quick fixes or short cuts.
Seeing individuals grow and gain a genuine sense of identity brings me joy as a counsellor and is one of the reasons I love being one. I do not believe the counsellor role should be one that is authoritarian or directive, this is your journey. I will be with you as we explore the past, present and future, in a safe place, where you will not be judged.
Basepoint business centre has a reception area where there is coffee, vending machines and a comfortable seating area, this can be utilized by clients, if required, before/after face to face counselling sessions. The building has free parking and is just off the A14, it is also not in the town centre which makes the location more discreet.
£40 per 50 minute session.
'I found working with David greatly helpful as he was able to gently guide me through topics each week. Even with the difficulty of the sessions having to take place over Zoom, he was still able to make me feel at ease and I felt genuinely listened to. I also appreciated his concerns for my benefit of the sessions as he would regularly ask if he needed to do anything different, although I never felt he did need to. If during the session we spoke about particularly heavy topics I never felt rushed or cut off by David, he ensured to listen and respond fully before the session ended. I also found it very considerate that David was able to alter his price due to financial complications, this made it far less of a concern. I think that with the sessions over zoom it delayed the develop of a therapeutic relationship but only slightly as David was very clear and communicative each week which still allowed for trust and comfort to develop. I also appreciated how accommodating David was if I needed to rearrange a session, although I’m sure this wasn’t always ideal for him, he never made me feel like I was being an inconvenience.'
