About me and my therapy practice

The experience of coming for therapy is an opportunity for you to discover for the first or subsequent time in life that you can let go of all the judgements, the fear and hesitation, and begin to talk about what is bothering you. We become wounded within a sense of connectedness - in families, relationships, friendships and society - and paradoxically it is within a sense of connectedness that we can begin to heal. Healing the emotional brain takes time, but it is a creative and deeply fulfilling process that brings wonderful gifts with itself. I help my clients to begin to feel more balanced and calm within their mind and body.

I work with clients going through moderate distress, and some of the common issues that I work with are: anxiety, depression, Complex Trauma, relationship issues, survivors of domestic violence and post-traumatic stress. I help my clients to feel more grounded and functional in life, before they feel ready to reflect upon their past experiences.

Opening up about your life in psychotherapy can be a very anxiety-provoking experience for many, and therefore, I can assure you that the work I do is not about judgement, but it is to get a deeper understanding of what is going on for you. And to offer you a space where you can be heard and seen. I welcome the use of art and poetry in the therapy sessions.

Long-Term and Short-Term Therapy

In addition to long-term psychotherapy, I offer a once-weekly counselling programme of 10 weeks to individuals in order to teach them emotional self-regulation skills that are informed by mindfulness and affect regulation theories.

About me and my therapy practice

I work with couples on an open-ended basis to facilitate a space for them in psychotherapy where they can begin to see the root causes of the relational difficulties that exist between them. At present I only offer online appointments for couples and relationship therapy. Both the participants of relationship psychotherapy need to be in the same space to attend the online session.

People often come to relationship therapy when there is a lot that they have tried amongst themselves, and nothing seems to work to make two people understand each other. The type of psychotherapy I offer aims to facilitate a space for you so that you can get a deeper understanding of what happens within the unspoken space between both of you, and how your individual life histories - more often than not - continue to play a role in influencing how you relate to each other. My focus in relationship psychotherapy is twofold: to understand how your past shapes your present, and to understand what is happening between both of you in the here and now.

Practice description

The starting point of relationship therapy with me is that the answers for how to repair your relationship lie within both of you, and my role is to facilitate a space where you can begin to connect to that wisdom. Relationship therapy also pays attention to the longing that two people have been carrying all their life into this current relationship, and exploring the ways in which that longing can or cannot be met. Lastly, relationship therapy invites two individuals to open up the vulnerable parts of themselves to their partner in the guiding presence of a psychotherapist, in order to relate to the other person from a different place than a habitual one.

Opening up about your life in psychotherapy can be a very anxiety-provoking experience for many, and therefore, I can assure you that the work I do is not about judgement, but it is to get a deeper understanding of what is going on for you. And to offer you a space where you can be heard and seen. I also offer a warm and non-judgemental space in therapy for gay men and LGB clients.

Please note: All Relationship Therapy / Couples Counselling appointments are offered online at present.
