About me and my therapy practice
Welcome. My name is Catherine Bray. I am a psychodynamic counsellor and group analyst working in Chesham and Hemel Hempstead offering confidential individual counselling and group psychotherapy to people who are experiencing emotional and mental health problems.
I work psychodynamically which means that I am interested in what happens under the surface – the meaning behind the words and the significance of apparently trivial events. In psychodynamic counselling, nothing is silly, or trivial, ‘only that…’ or ‘just this…’
Underpinning all my counselling and group psychotherapy work is the knowledge that it is ultimately the quality of the relationship between client and therapist - that's you and me - that heals.
I am not currently taking on long-term individual clients, there are, however vacancies in my group-analytic psychotherapy group.
After an introductory period of 4 to 6 weeks, we will decide on the frequency of our sessions as well as the length of time you wish to commit to our work together.
Sessions normally take place weekly, but individual arrangements regarding frequency of sessions can be made.
If you miss or cancel a session at short notice, the normal session fee will be charged.
I will always try to accommodate a change in our normal session day or time, if necessary. However, if I am unable to do so, the normal session fee will be charged.
In some circumstances, a reduced fee may be negotiated for foreseeable absences.
If I cancel a session, no fee is charged.
My first session
Our first session will take place after we have spoken on the phone to arrange a time and date to meet, either in person or on Zoom. This will be a chance for us to talk to about how we could work together, and to see if you think my approach might be helpful – we can talk about anything that is or has been bothering you, in the past or the present. If at the end of our initial consultation you remain uncertain, we can arrange another session to see if things become clearer. I believe that your instinct will tell you if we can work together.
