About me and my therapy practice

I am a trained psychotherapist and a professional coach, with 30 years' experience in business and finance, in both private and public sector, with the last 15-20 years in senior and strategic positions.  I am also an entrepreneur with 3 successful businesses.

  • BACP registered psychotherapist (PG Dip in Psychodynamic Counselling) since 2007
  • ICF credentialled Professional Certified Coach (PCC)
  • Further training in organisational transactional analysis and redecision therapy

I work with people in leadership positions to help them increase awareness, clarity and a sense agency in their lives, so they can expand their potential.

Because of my dual training, I am free to move from from coaching to therapy and back again, depending on where my clients are in their journey and what support they require.   Because of my business background, I connect easily with my clients' work and personal context.

Practice description

What sets my work apart is that, rather than fixing 'behaviour', I focus on the underlying conflicts (which for the most part live in the unconscious) and support my clients in making new decisions about their internal (and external) lives.

This means the way I work differs from the majority of traditional coaching approaches, which are cognitive in nature and focus on thoughts and conscious mind.

I create space in which to think, feel, explore and experiment, make decisions and hold accountability.  I will not preach, teach, fix or judge.

My role is to be a partner on your journey.  I may point the torch into the dark corners, or put up a mirror so you can see your brilliance.  If you are stuck in a dark place, I'll stay there with you - because facing it is better than running away from it.  We'll mull over things together, until you find your way.

My first session

The objective of the first session is for us to meet as humans and decide whether we want to work together.  We will explore questions such as:

  • What brought you to book a session?
  • What are you hoping to achieve?
  • What have you already tried?
  • What would success look like?
  • What would our partnership need to be to support you?
  • How could we fail? (so we can ensure we succeed)

The first session is standalone and usually lasts about an hour.  If we decide that we would like to work together, we will agree on the number and duration of the sessions going forward.
