About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Jessica. I'm trying to get out of the habit of asking "How are you?" when I meet clients for the first time, because while I am genuinely interested, there will be some things we need to go over first.
Realising that you might need to talk to someone can be an unsettling experience. Actually finding that person can be a different experience entirely. I'd encourage you to look around, send some emails, get a feel for who you are talking to, and don't feel like you have to stick with one person even if you initially felt the match was good. You need to feel able to open up to this person about things you might never have said before. That might not happen instantly, but 'gut feelings' are a good place to start.
My style of counselling is friendly, inquisitive and caring. I work hard to promote an environment which is conducive to you being able to share whatever it may be that has encouraged you to seek counselling. I will not give unsolicited advice or have solutions to your problems because I feel that you are the expert on your experience. I will be with you as you explore this experience, offering empathy, listening and affirming your story so that you are able to further discover your thoughts and feelings and find a way forward that works for you.
I provide remote counselling either via video or phone sessions. Some clients prefer to work in a purely text based way and as such I am able to facilitate this in some instances. The sessions that I offer are 60 minutes in duration.
I work from a private office which is a quiet, confidential space free from distraction.
I enjoy working with people from all walks of life on whatever issues are important to them.
Coming to this profession as a mature student I hold a wealth of life experience as well as having worked with a number of different client issues including , but not limited to sexuality, consensual non-monogamy, personality disorders and anxiety and depression. I see myself as open-minded and liberal when it comes to the human experience therefore whatever you bring to the session, we can explore this safely with no judgement.
My first session
Before we agree to work together, I offer a free remote consultation where we will be able to discuss what brings you to seek therapy and we can also get to know each other a little and get a feel for whether we would work well together.
I would describe the contract that we would work under and explain about confidentiality and the way in which I work, and explain about the assessment form which I also use to gather relevant information. We would also discuss an appropriate time for our sessions to take place.
Following this, if you would like to commence therapy, I will email you a copy of the contract and assessment form to complete and return and we will then meet for the first paid session.
