About me and my therapy practice
My 4-year training is accredited by BPC and BACP. Prior to this, I was a mental health social worker and have a combined experience of over 20 years supporting people from all walks of life through challenging times.
I place real emphasis on building a relationship of trust and security with my clients, where we can explore present troubles, consider the influence of the past and find hope for the future. A good therapeutic experience is key in making the links which will enable you to process difficult experiences, survive current challenges and know which choices to make. I work in a non-directive way. You will determine the focus, depth and pace of our work together.
I work with adults of all ages, over the short, medium or long term.
My practice in in the centre of Melksham and situated on the ground floor.
I can help you explore:
Troubled or destructive relationship patterns (family dynamics, couple dynamics, sibling conflicts or dynamics at work).
Life transitions (becoming a parent, relationship breakdown / divorce, menopause, children leaving home, retirement).
Trauma, past or present (bereavement, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, abuse/assault, accidents, chronic illness or acquired disability).
Somatic manifestations of distress (chronic fatigue, chronic pain, eating distress, self-harm or addiction).
Existential fears (questioning meaning and purpose in life, health anxieties, fear of separation or abandonment, fear of loss and death).
General feelings of alienation, disconnection, inadequacy, insecurity, self-blame, guilt or shame.
Tavistock Relations Certificate & Advanced Certificate in the Study of the Couple Relationship (2 years)
Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (4 years)
Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Mental Health Social Work (2 years)
Degree in Psychology and Sociology (3 years)
My consulting room is a quiet and comfortable room in my home in Melksham, which is within easy access of Holt, Bromham, Atworth, Whitley, Chalford, Wraxall, Hilperton, Rowde, Chittoe, Lacock, Box, Bradford on Avon, Corsham, Pewsham, Devizes, Westbury, Calne, Chippenham and Trowbridge.
Although the consultation room is on the ground floor, the toilet is on the first floor and requires being able to negotiate one flight of stairs. My practice is therefore not fully accessible for clients with more severe mobility issues.
Parking is on road on a first come first served basis. There is also a public car park within a 2 minute walking distance.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak I have incorporated telephone and online counselling into my practice. Online sessions are undertaken via Zoom.
My first session
I try to respond to any new enquiry as soon as possible, normally within 48 hours.
I try to offer a first appointment as soon as possible, normally within 1-2 weeks, but this is subject to your and my availability. The more flexible you can be regarding sessions, the sooner an appointment can be offered.
Our first session would be a free-of-charge 30 minute meeting, during which we can talk about what brings you to counselling and to see whether we are a good fit in working together.
During our subsequent session I would take a more detailed history of your life and current issues.
If you have any particular questions or concerns regarding beginning a therapy, please do not hesitate to ask.
