About me and my therapy practice

The basis of my work is to, in a variety of ways, support you to become more aware of yourself. This gives you a strong base from which to make decisions, understand what you really want, understand your own reactions to your situation and have more control over trauma-related experiences such as nightmares, ‘flashbacks’ etc. I draw on my experience and training – updating this regularly by attending training that can extend my knowledge and add to the skills that I have. I get good feedback from clients and training professional alike. From my recently completed Creative Supervision course I received this from the tutors: “You are a skilled practitioner, [offering] skilled and insightful interventions” Not long ago I received this unsolicited testimonial from a client who had finished longer term work: “Jane is a wonderful person and skilled therapist. Most noticeable is her phenomenal ability to notice. I felt seen and important and this subtle yet highly affirming and powerful approach literally got me through some really difficult times.” And I often get feedback like this, from a recent short-term client: “I’m feeling more contented and a bit more like me. Thank you for everything.” I have experience of working with a wide range of people such as: survivors of childhood abuse and domestic violence; boarding school survivors; men in prison, including sex offenders; people with mental health difficulties and people with learning difficulties. I have a non medical-model approach to mental health difficulties. I have worked with leading USA trauma therapist Babette Rothschild to bring her to Wales (Llandrindod & Cardiff) for the first time to deliver her training. Working in rural area I find it important to really emphasise that the work between us and the relationship is confidential – (alongside of course noting the professional requirement for supervision and those times when it is necessary to break confidentiality.)

About me and my therapy practice

Supervision. I have many years’ experience as a supervisor in a variety of roles within the voluntary or third sector. I have a Certificate in Creative Supervision, reflecting my approach which offers supervisees a variety of methods of reflecting on their work in ways that are exploratory and not judging. Supervision is an opportunity to feel validated and supported, to feel safe enough to bring difficulties and look at different ways of working with a given situation. I can offer: 1. Regular, on-going supervision to counsellors and therapists as required by professional bodies 2. Regular consultative (i.e. non line-management) supervision to anyone in the third or private care or support sectors, recognising the importance of reflective practice. 3. Regular or ad-hoc supervision of Ecotherapy practice. Exploring wild supervision of Wild Mind practice together. 4. Ad-hoc consultative supervision to anyone in the third or private care or support sectors, as well as complimentary or alternative therapists who are feeling some difficulty with a client (N.B. –this is about the relationship between you and the client and how difficulties or negative reactions may be impacting you – it is not about your own treatment decisions) 5. Ad-hoc consultative supervision or de-briefing sessions for teams experiencing difficult reactions to troubling circumstances that the team maybe facing. 6. Training courses for managers in the third sector, recognising the reality of line management as well as the client-focused, supportive and developmental functions of supervision. For 1, 2 and 3 for regular supervision) this is in Llandrindod Wells or within a 1 hour drive. For 3 (ad-hoc) 4, 5 & 6 this can be within a 2 hour drive of Llandrindod Wells. For all work more than 45 minutes from Llandrindod Wells I will discuss travel costs and an agreed cost for my travel time.
