About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP accredited counsellor with over 20 years experience. I worked in the NHS for 30 years, as a nurse, midwife, and later also as a counsellor. I have been a counsellor in NHS primary care, workplace counselling, for Relate, in private practice, NHS substance misuse services, and in schools. Now I only work independently from my therapy room in Mydroilyn.
I have a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, a Relate Diploma in Relationship Counselling, and a Certificate in Person-Centred Supervision. I have also had some training in a variety of other approaches, including motivational interviewing, low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), brief solution focused therapy.
I grew up in Germany, came to live in England when I was 18, and I am very happy to now be living in Wales since 2019.
I work in English and in German.
Dw i’n mwynhau dysgu Cymraeg, ond yn anffodus dw i ddim yn gallu siarad yn ddigon i weithio yng Nghymraeg ar hyn o bryd.
I aim to listen to your concerns without judging you in any way, to understand you from your own point of view, and to help you make sense of what is on your mind. What we talk about will be up to you, but common themes are stress, relationship issues including sex, health concerns, change, loss, bereavement, low mood, and distressing, traumatic events.
Sessions usually last 60 minutes, but we may agree shorter or longer sessions, depending on your needs and preferences. Counselling may be for a few sessions, or longer term. You decide how many sessions you need.
As I work independently, I can be flexible and we can taylor the way we work together to you as an individual.
I believe strongly in equal opportunities for all and enjoy meeting people of all ages with different ways of life and different talents and abilities.
During the coronavirus pandemic, I am only working via the telephone or Zoom video in order to keep everyone safe.
Please feel free to contact me, if you would like to find out more, without any obligation.
My fees are £45 per hour for individuals, and £50 for couples. (£50 and £55 respectively for organisations)
Your first session of 30 minutes is free (see below).
My first session
Your first session of 30 minutes is free of charge, so that we can talk about whether I am the right counsellor for you and how we can best work together.
We can arrange to meet either on the telephone, or via a secure video link. I suggest that you find a quiet place, where you can’t be overheard and won’t be disturbed.
This is an opportunity for you to ask me anything about the way I work, with no obligation. I will explain what you can expect from counselling with me, including confidentiality and some exceptions to this.
If we decide to go ahead with further sessions, I will ask you for some brief personal and contact details.
I keep only minimal records, i. e. your contact details, and separate very brief anonymised notes of sessions. These are kept securely in line with current data protection regulations. You are welcome to see them and add to them, if you wish.
Once our work together has finished and the notes are no longer needed, I destroy them.
Please feel free to contact me, if you would like to find out more.
