About me and my therapy practice

I am Amanda, a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor. I understand that coming to see a counsellor can be a daunting step. In doing so it can be the start of the change, understanding, and self-insight you may be seeking.

I offer a free initial conversation, lasting up to 30 minutes, which helps us to see if I am the right counsellor for you.

I use an integrative approach in counselling, which emphasises the importance of the therapeutic relationship.  My practice is informed by a number of psychotherapeutic models/theories including Person Centred, Attachment, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Systemic Approaches.  Do not worry if you are unsure about what all of that means, it means I know a number of different methods that could help you.

Although change can seem impossible, change is possible. Working together in a safe and confidential environment we would look at how that can happen. Please contact me to discuss how I can help you.

Practice description

I offer a confidential and safe space for you to look at your challenges and concerns with a trained professional.   I will support you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, to help you to have a better understanding of yourself.   Enabling you to understand your motives, attitudes and feelings, and help you to connect with your learned and core beliefs, world view, and feelings about yourself and others.

Counselling helps you to look at the relationships, thoughts, and behaviours that have an unhealthy impact on you, and can support you in making alternative life choices.   I will help you find your own solutions and will not give you my opinions or prescribe medication.

I work with adults, but do not offer couples counselling.

I have worked with people from a range of backgrounds who have experienced or are experiencing challenges that have a negative impact on them. This includes trauma, anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, addiction, low self-esteem, spirituality, parenting challenges (including neurodiversity), disability, illness, and/or unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Before starting a private counselling practice I worked for a Domestic Abuse Service, counselling survivors of domestic abuse, and a Family Centre, counselling parents struggling with the challenges of family life.

My first session

Coming to see a counsellor can be a daunting step.  In doing so it can be the start of the change, understanding, and self-insight you may have been seeking.

We would arrange a free initial conversation lasting up to 30 minutes, normally on Zoom if possible. We will discuss some of your background information, what you hope to gain from counselling, and any questions you may have.  If you choose to go ahead we then arrange an initial consultation (for 50 minutes) which would be more detailed, and also make sure that I am the right counsellor for your needs. If we agree to work together, we would then arrange a regular 50 minute appointment (in-person, online, or by phone).

The initial conversation is free and lasts for up to 30 minutes, and then following sessions are £50 per session (for 50 minutes).

Concessions may be available for those on low or no income.
