About me and my therapy practice

I offer 15 years of practice as a counsellor of adults & also hold an MSc in Play Therapy & have been working with children and young people since 2017.

My experience is gained from working in NHS fertility treatment clinics, university student counselling services, Employment Assistance Provider Services / EAP's and private practice with adult and child clients. Working to support parents and child carers is embedded in my play therapy practice with children.

Practice description

I have been a counsellor for 15 years, a supervisor of adult counselling practitioners since 2010 & a supervisor of play therapists since 2019.

My private practice is based at 12 Melville Terrace, in Stirling.

I also offer Child Parent Relationship Therapy for carers / parents and the children they care for.

We welcome enquiries from parents or other guardians keen to engage in relationship building sessions with their children via interactive play therapy sessions: https://www.therapytrainstirling.co.uk

My first session

The first 60 minute session is an assessment of therapeutic needs; at this meeting the number of sessions is agreed, with planned review sessions every 6th session for adult clients. Counselling Outcome in Routine Evaluation [CORE-10] questionnaires are used at the start and end of the counselling contract. The hourly fee for adult counselling sessions in £50.

Parents or legal guardians can refer a child for play therapy.

An adult who refers a child is normally their Main Care-Giver, who  is then invited to attend a first meeting to discuss and assess their child's therapeutic needs (without the child present).

During a first meeting, the referring adult of a child younger than 10 years of age are invited to complete a pre-therapy Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire [SDQ] which gives some insight into a child's observable strengths or difficulties.

Once a contracted number of play therapy sessions has been agreed, review meetings with the Main Care-Giver who referred the child, take place after every 4th child session; and SDQs are repeated at these review meetings.

The hourly fee for child play therapy sessions and review meetings is £70.
