About me and my therapy practice
Counselling is useful for a variety of situations. If you are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, work or relationship issues, domestic violence, bereavement, addiction or any other difficulties affecting your life, I provide the opportunity to talk openly and honestly in a safe and confidential setting.
I use a Person Centred Approach which is non directive and non judgemental and encourages you to explore your problems, empowering you to seek the most suitable way for you to move forward with your life. By doing so you may recognise how past experiences are still affecting your life and your relationships today.
My aim is to provide a warm, empathic, safe and caring environment and build a trusting relationship which will allow you to explore these issues and identify any effective changes you may wish to make in your life. I will not give advice or tell you what to do. Any choices, changes or decisions will be yours.
I also work with couples who are having difficulties within their relationship. By helping you to identify areas of conflict and explore these issues I will be able to support you in making any necessary changes.

I work from a tastefully decorated room upstairs in my home which is comfortably and suitably furnished
My first session
Our first session will consist of setting up an agreement on how we plan to work together. This addresses the practical issues of fees, contact, cancellations and confidentiality so we both know what we can expect from the other.
I then go through a brief questionnaire with you. This helps me to get an understanding of how you are currently feeling and provides you with an opportunity to explain this in more detail. It also highlights any areas of risk which may need to be addressed.
You are then invited to tell me why you are attending counselling, what you hope to achieve from it, and what has happened in your life to to prompt this now. As you talk I will listen carefully and ask questions to clarify my understanding about you and your life.
Together we will decide how to approach the counselling to help you to make necessary changes which will improve your life
