About me and my therapy practiceUPDATE: Amid Covid-19 measures, I will be offering sessions remotely (online or telephone)
Accredited Registered Member MBACP (Accred.)
I'm a BACP-accredited counsellor/psychotherapist seeing clients in a GP surgery and in private practice, as well as a registered practitioner with BAPAM – the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine, seeing musicians and other creative professionals.
Alongside therapy, I am a freelance writer and routinely appear in the press and media on therapy and mental health related issues, including BBC Radio. I am the host and producer of the music and mental health podcast Sound Affects.
Prior to this, I was a Samaritans helpline listener for 4 years, supporting people with suicidal feelings and a copywriter for Samaritans during their male-suicide research campaign. I have worked with Mind and within a range of university counselling services and mental health settings.
My style is warm and empathic and, where appropriate, incorporates creative elements such as drawing, chair work and movement. I don't give advice but I focus on getting to the crux of your underlying feelings and wants when you remove society's expectations from the picture.
Sessions can feel reflective, with lots of two-way dialogue between us; other times they can feel playful and creative. My aim is not to interpret you or define who you are, but to support you to define yourself.
