About me and my therapy practice
''It is a joy to be hidden, and disaster not to be found' - D.W Winnicott
My name is Sharon Nicholson and my private practice is based in a restorative harbourside location in Weymouth, Dorset.
Qualified since 2006, I am a BACP Registered and Accredited Counsellor with a wealth of training and experience to draw from in order to best support you.
I established my private practice in 2007, and alongside this, I worked as counsellor and clinical supervisor in the NHS for 10 years. My specialism during this time was Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE- CfD)
Counselling with me offers you a safe space to explore your experiences, without being judged.
You may need support with a specific life event such as a recent bereavement, relationship breakdown, redundancy etc.
You may feel anxious, low in mood or unsure of your direction/purpose in life.
We can also help you to recognise and effectively address your inner critic.
Counselling with me addresses what is currently happening for you, and gives you the opportunity to gain some relief from what you are experiencing, and what you may have minimised, or buried inside.
Awareness gives you choices
* Online video and telephone sessions available
* I am currently offering all counselling sessions via video or telephone call *
A chance for you to be truly heard...
I appreciate that it can take courage to come and share your experiences so my aim is to make the process as rewarding as possible for you.
Counselling can range from a short, solution-focused piece of work to longer-term psychotherapy.
How we work together is dependent upon your needs and we can talk about what may suit you best during our initial consultation.
Some of the positive changes that my clients have benefitted from include;
- Greater clarity and a sense of feeling 'back in control' of oneself
- No longer feeling stuck
- Greater ability to make decisions
- Better sleep
- Decreased feelings of anxiety, shame, guilt
- Improved relationships
- A sense of purpose and empowerment
Sessions are usually held weekly in order for counselling to be most effective
My first session
I offer an optional free of charge brief telephone consultation to help us decide together if counselling with me maybe helpful for you.
If appropriate, a full consultation will then allow us to explore what is happening for you in a little more detail, consider your background history and establish an initial focus for our work together.
There is no obligation to continue with sessions after our initial consultation, and I will help you to find an alternative therapist if we feel that I'm not the right counsellor for you.
