About me and my therapy practice

I consider myself to be an Integrative CBT counsellor. I currently offer clients a counselling model, which has a humanistic base, within a cognitive behavioural framework consisting of a beginning; middle and end. I modify my approach to best suit the client and their needs, and work differently according to the different settings that I practice in, for example within the GP setting the majority of my work is an integration of person-centred counselling, especially at the beginning stage, and cognitive-behavioural therapy, because I believe that it is an effective therapy for specific disorders. I also work within a GP setting and within my own private practice. I believe my model is an integration of myself, a compassionate person centred ethos, cognitive behavioural therapy, and occasionally use psychodynamic theory to inform my work. After an initial assessment and, if appropriate, I use CBT, and CBT interventions with clients who are presenting with specific disorders such as anxiety and depression. I also introduce relaxation techniques especially to clients who are suffering with anxiety and panic attacks.

About me and my therapy practice

I have a CPCAB L6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision.

I have been granted senior accredited status for supervising counsellors. I have been in clinical supervision since 2009, and have a consultant supervisor for my work with supervisees. I am  a Counselling Supervisor for students on the Ulster-validated FdCs Integrative Counselling and for the CPCAB TC-L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling . I currently offer clinical supervision (for counsellors who are training to be supervisors), counselling students and fully qualified counsellors.

Practice description

I use Hawkins and Shohet's 2006 Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision as my supervision framework, but also integrate elements of Page and Wosket's 2001 Cyclical Model of Supervision and Michael Carroll's Tasks of Supervision Model.

I currently teach on the CPCAB TCSU-L6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision at Belfast Metropolitan College.

Counselling Supervision is about you, the counselling practitioner  first and foremost. I will provide you with a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your client work using a range of theoretical models; an environment that essential to personal and professional development, and is a key factor in avoiding burnout.

My counselling practice, supervision practice, teaching practice, and personal philosophy of counselling are based in the Humanistic paradigm within an Integrative approach.

My first session

Our first session will be spent going through our supervision contract to ensure that we are aware of expectations, roles and administration, one of which is to be of service to you and provide the many tasks of counselling supervision.
