About me and my therapy practice
Taking the step to help yourself is daunting. I welcome you to contact me for a free 20 min no obligation enquiry to discuss your difficulties. I’m interested to hear what's been going on in your life.
I am a highly experienced and award-winning therapist who has a successful career spanning 7 years. I’ve delivered over 5000 hours of Counselling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness in the NHS, charity and private sector to people like yourself all across the UK and Europe and I have been featured on the BBC, Huffington Post, Psychology Now magazine, and in many more outlets of the media as an expert on therapy and wellbeing.
I genuinely care about who you are and what you are going through. Helping you navigate your suffering is tremendously important to me because, like you, I know what it's like to suffer. I've dedicated my life to learning ways to help people overcome what life throws at them.
I offer face-to-face sessions at the Royal Exchange, in Manchester, as well as online and telephone sessions from Monday to Friday.
The most common feedback I receive is that I am:
- Genuine
- Easy and calming to be around
- Patient and kind
- Relatable and offer ‘real-world’ support
Testimonial
"Thank you so much for being compassionate and understanding but more importantly being real and genuine.
You instil a sense of calmness and validity which I have really needed. I was never really one to talk about my feelings but I have felt safe enough to do so in our sessions. I hope you know that you are making a difference.”
- Sofia
“My worries were alleviated after initially speaking with James. Finding the root cause and patterns of behaviour that have caused me issues for years I have finally managed to overcome. The benefits I have gained from therapy with him are invaluable.
James came highly recommended from a friend, and I would extend that recommendation to anyone who is seeking therapy.”
- Michael
Practice description
Along with 1-2-1 therapy, I work pro bono for Reubens Retreat. Reubens Retreat is a charity that supports parents who have experienced child loss and parents whose children have life-limiting illnesses.
My role at Reubens is to deliver a unique therapy group for Fathers called, "Dad's Club". One father describes it, "Dad's club is the last club you want to be in, but the most helpful place in the world".
I am also undertaking a research project with the University of Salford on group therapy for fathers who have lost children.
My first session
The first session tends to involve you talking about what your troubles are and getting comfortable with meeting a new therapist. I’ll do my best to make you feel safe and relaxed.
It’s the beginning of the meaningful change you desire. Whilst in the first session not everything is “fixed”, most people walk away feeling better and glad they have taken the leap.
Telephone consultation: FREE (20min)
Session length: 60 minutes
I look forward to speaking with you.
My best wishes,
James Hartley
