About me and my therapy practice
My name is Mary and I am qualified integrated counsellor and Supervisor. I have a person- centred approach but my training also covered Transactional Analysis and CBT. I value individuality so my integrated training allows me to draw on other approaches to fit the counselling to your needs and personality.
Life events impact on us in different ways and sometimes there is no space or time to explore and process these feelings or changes in life circumstances. Counselling is a talking therapy which provides this opportunity. I can offer you a calm and confidential space to explore any issues, concerns or feelings.
I believe there is no shoe fits all and what helps one client doesn’t necessarily work with another, so my approach is always led by and tailored to the client. New shoes are not always comfortable at first and sometimes need working in. It’s the same with counselling, sometimes, particularly at the beginning, it can be uncomfortable and challenging but change also brings growth and strength. You may have specific goals you want to achieve or you may want just to talk as there is something in your life that is uncomfortable or doesn’t ‘fit’. In either case, counselling is a journey which I will be privileged to accompany you.
The introductory session is free and can take place in person, on line or by telephone, whichever you prefer. There is no obligation to commit to further sessions. It will also include a brief assessment. This is an opportunity for you to find out which sort of counselling (eg telephone, video conferencing or face to face) is right for you and to decide whether we would be able to work together productively.
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
On Line and Telephone Counselling Certificate (BACP/Open University and Counselling Tutor)
Advanced Clinical Supervision including telephone and on line working, Level 6.
My practice is fundamentally person-centred but I use different approaches or techniques which I acquired through training and continuing professional development.
I offer face to face counselling, telephone and video conferencing counselling (Zoom). Weekdays I work from home in Saltney and on Saturdays I have a room in the centre of Chester.
Generally clients have weekly appointments but I can offer flexibility depending on my availability.
I usually work in a series of 6 sessions with a review on the 6th or 7th sessions to decide whether goals have been achieved or more sessions would be helpful. However there is no obligation to commit to six sessions.
My first session
My first session, if on line or by telephone is free and will take approximately 15 - 30 minutes with no obligation to commit to further sessions. If the session is face to face, there would be charge of £20.00. It will also include a brief assessment. This is an opportunity for you to find out which sort of counselling (eg telephone, video conferencing or face to face) is right for you and to decide whether we would be able to work together productively.
