About me and my therapy practice
Counselling is an opportunity to talk over any troubling issues in a private and relaxed setting with someone who plays no other role in your life. It allows the counsellor and client to develop a non-judgemental, accepting relationship, where the client feels they are safe and able to express themselves freely.
As an integrative counsellor, I draw on various therapeutic theories and use them to suit the unique needs of individuals. I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to its ethical framework. Currently, I work for a charity offering support to young people and adults who are impacted by cancer. I also have experience working with issues such as bereavement, loss, depression, anxiety, abuse, spirituality, trauma, childhood issues, relationship problems and work-related issues.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked as a teacher in secondary education for ten years. I have also worked as a youth worker, offering emotional support and pastoral care in a variety of settings. I have worked to support adults, older people and young people all my working life.
At the first meeting, we will talk through the issues concerning you. You can then decide whether you think further counselling is the best way forward: some people find a short term of counselling helpful; others benefit from longer term sessions. Sessions usually last for 50 minutes and are usually weekly.
