Availability
I primarily offer in-person sessions, but please contact me if you wish to discuss the option of working online.
I understand that finding the right counsellor is difficult and sometimes it can feel like you are endlessley scrolling through websites trying to find someone you feel you will click with. You might also feel certain barriers to accessing support. To support you in this process, I'm happy to have a free, no obligation initial conversation either by phone or videocall.
Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to have a chat about how we might work together, even if you aren't sure if counselling (or me as your counsellor) is right for you yet.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with adults and young people, aged 16+ from diverse backgrounds and experiences, in a way that fits the needs of each unique therapy relationship. Whether you know exactly what you want from therapy, or aren't quite sure yet what's wrong or what you need, I will offer you a confidential, collaborative and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings. I will actively listen to your concerns and experiences, seek to understand your perspective, and offer insights to facilitate your self-awareness.
Clients commonly approach me for support with struggles relating to school/college and work-related stress, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, life transitions, body image, eating disorders and trauma. I've also recently trained in the Rewind technique to support phobia and trauma treatment.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and continuously update my knowledge and expertise through engaging in relevant training and workshops.
Practice description
I combine various therapeutic techniques and theories, tailoring my approach to your needs and preferences. Together, we will explore any implicit or explicit patterns in your emotions, behaviours and relationships to gain a deeper understanding of how they might relate to your current struggles. By examining the connections between your past experiences and present challenges, we can work towards understanding and transforming the struggles you face and finding more helpful ways to navigate your life.
Whilst not providing specific advice or solutions, I may offer information or suggestions, but always with respect for your autonomy. For example, to benefit from counselling, it is important that you do not feel overwhelmed by your emotions during therapy. Therefore, I find it useful to incorporate bodily awareness into sessions as this helps people to both ‘feel their feelings’ and develop a sense of emotional control. Where appropriate, we will also discuss strategies for self-care and what might be needed to establish and maintain feelings of safety.
My first session
I offer a (free) brief initial telephone conversation so that we can get a sense of whether we'd like to work together.
Our first session will be slightly more structured than subsequent sessions as we will discuss the counselling agreement and there are some background questions to explore so that I can work with you safely. I'm happy to send these documents in advance if that feels useful. Subsequent sessions would generally be led by you if this feels comfortable - I usually start by asking clients what they need from the session and we take it from there.
