About me and my therapy practice
I offer collaborative and creative therapy in a safe and confidential space where you can explore what is happening in any area of your personal or work life, how to bring meaning to a situation and to find ways to go forward. I am able to work with any aspect of a person’s life. I value and respect difference and diversity and am open to working with all people, beliefs and ways of being. I work with all people across a spectrum of gender, sexuality and relationship diversity. I also work with groups and organisations.
Practice description
I work in private practice located in the centre of Edinburgh.
My approach sits within a view of psychotherapy as being embedded in the social, political and economic contexts, environment and power relations within which both the therapist and client lives. In this sense I do not regard the 'problem' being experienced or the process of change as being entirely located within the individual. I am instead to committed to the development of a 'community psychology' where the person is always understood and related to as being situated with others in their life.
As a Psychodramatist, I also offer the use of creative action methods in my work with individuals, partners, couples and groups to explore aspects of self and interpersonal relations. In using these methods to explore life situations I facilitate the person to map out aspects of themselves and others in their life through the use of objects like fabrics, stones, cards and figures. It is then often helpful to explore what is happening in a given situation through having a dialogue with any element or aspect of the person's life.
My first session
At our initial consultation we will explore whether I am a good fit for your needs.
At this session we can explore any initial questions you may have about working with me and how I might be of assistance at this time. This will help us to begin to get a sense of...
- the focus and frequency of your sessions
- whether you would like to work with me one-to-one or join a psychotherapy group
- agreeing on a set number of sessions or to work in an open-ended way
- any specific goals you might have that can be changed or reviewed at any time
- or whether you prefer to work with whatever is happening for you as and when issues arise.
I look forward to hearing from you and exploring the possibility of working together...
