About me and my therapy practice
My aim is to provide you with a safe and confidential space where you can focus on discussing experiences and emotions that are of concern to you and stop you from living your life in a fulfilling manner. The aim is for you to gain awareness of the possibilities for making meaningful changes to your life and then examine the choices that are available to you.
Sessions last for an hour and are held on a weekly basis. The decision about how many sessions to have will be made at the end of the first meeting.
I work from Acomb four days a week and from 95 Union Terrace in the centre of town on wednesdays.
You can either telephone or email to arrange an initial appointment.

About me and my therapy practice
Exploring your motivation to see a counsellor at this exact time will be the starting point of our work together. When you contact me you may feel disoriented, preoccupied or in great distress and you may wish to make sense of what is going on for you.
High levels of anxiety or stress may make it difficult for you to identify the exact source of your distress or stop you from making sense of what is unfolding around you. Therapy may offer you the space to sit back from the intensity of your experiences and make the choices that are available to you more apparent.
My role as a psychotherapist is to provide a safe space in which you can sit in the 'clearing' of your life and understand the whirlwind of your emotions, and get a clearer understanding of the choices that lie ahead.
I am a Registered MBACP (Snr. Accred) member of the BACP and a UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) registered Existential Psychotherapist and a member of the Society for Existential Analysis (SEA).
Practice description
Once we meet we will discuss the possible direction of our work together on the basis of the particular conflict, strong emotion, or dilemma that has brought you to our session. Depending on your experience of sitting alongside me for the duration of our time together, and how effective my presence has been whilst listening to you, you can decide if you feel that the way I work, and the way I am alongside you is the way you would like to proceed.
My first session
We will have an initial conversation either via email or on the phone to arrange a first meeting. At the first meeting we will discuss your expectations of our future sessions and during this time we can both decide if I am the best person to provide the support you need to meet your expressed expectations. If we agree to work together, I will usually schedule one sixty minute session per week at a time we agree on. Initially I will suggest that we meet for a set of six sessions and then review our work together.
