About me and my therapy practice

Change, decisions, loneliness, loss, grief, relationships, sometimes we can feel overwhelmed. Having a counsellor to talk things through with can really help with the anxiety and depression that can make life hard to cope with. I am a mature and calm person, offering a supportive and non-judgemental counselling service to help you when life's challenges get too much.

I work with each client in the same way, which is being empathetic, attentive, calm and open. Every person who comes to counselling is different, but I believe the basics of a helpful counselling session are always the same.  I trained as a Humanistic Integrative counsellor, in which the client is always at the centre of the work we do together.

When a client comes to counselling, it is often prompted by, or the start of change in their lives, and perhaps what initially prompts someone to seek counselling is just one aspect of their concerns or issues. As we work together other thoughts, feelings and concerns may also surface, and so we can work on whatever comes up, and in whatever order suits you. Having come from a teaching background I have an understanding of the challenges and pressures of the educational system and would be able to help support you with this. I have worked in other countries and have an understanding of cultural issues.

Practice description

A particular interest of mine is compulsive habits such as skin picking, hair pulling and the anxiety around hoarding. I understand what a traumatic effect these destructive behaviours can have on a person's life. I also have an understanding of the feelings suffered as a result of bereavement, and I came into counselling because of this. Being supported by a counsellor through the experience of grief can help a person to cope with the feelings they are trying to deal with.

I currently work on the phone and on zoom. Each session is 50 minutes.

My first session

The first session will include going through the client contract, which explains our responsibilities as counsellor and client, legal obligations of the counsellor, data protection, session times and payment terms, to ensure we are working ethically and professionally. When this has been agreed upon, the session continues with whatever the client wants to start with.
