About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Jo. I’m a counsellor, who works from the heart, and with a deep appreciation of each persons unique humanness and humanity.

I aim to support you to gain perspective about your journey, and what has led you to seek out counselling.

I will work with you to understand where you are now, what has hurt you along the way, and what strategies you’ve used to make your life work so far.

I will follow your lead, sitting with you and experiencing it all - alongside you. You can expect me to offer acknowledgement, insight and recognition, meeting all of you with compassion. Together, we’ll work to identify where you want to be and what may be required for change to happen.

Practice description

I offer 1 hour sessions, which you will direct and I will support your process.

I am fundamentally "person-centred", but my core aim is to deliver therapy that meets the needs of my clients and takes account of their lived experience.

My practice is informed by a social justice model.  I aim to offer an inclusive and progressive practice which takes account of each person's unique intersections of identity - i.e. race, gender identity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity etc - and how that has informed their lived experience and sense of wellbeing or distress.

My practice is trauma-informed, and rooted in an anti-oppressive frameworks.

My first session

I offer free introductory "hello" sessions - get in touch if you'd like set one up.

The first session will always involve us looking at a "therapy agreement" together - which outlines what you can expect from me, and how we will work together. We will also look at what has brought you into counselling and what your goals are for our work together.
