About me and my therapy practice
You are not alone right now if you're feeling anxious and overwhelmed. It's understandable to be confused and panicky in these very uncertain times. Talking to a professional can help you make sense of what to focus on to feel better and stay well.
challenging negative thoughts * soothing anxiety * managing worries * calming mind & body * introduction to mindfulness * understanding self care
My name is Alex Pledger and I’m a counsellor and life coach. I help people work out what they’re feeling, how their thoughts are affecting their mood and behaviour and help find ways to make positive changes. I practice in an integrative way which means I combine various counselling approaches to get the best fit for the problems you are bringing. I'll listen and ask questions without judging you, but if something is holding you back, then we might tackle it together, either by talking, or doing a written exercise, or with homework between sessions. My style is down to earth. Although the process of therapy can feel strange at first, I try to make our sessions feel as normal as possible... a two way dialogue about the things that really matter to you.
I am currently working online, offering sessions via video.
Here's what one of my clients said about working with me: "Alex has a lovely steady, calming manner and makes you feel at ease. I found it amazing when she would summarise what I said ... I wanted to shout "yes, that's it, you've got it!" To find someone who could make sense of the mess in my head was such a relief. She has an ability to interpret what you are saying with such accuracy, sensitivity and gentleness. Following my sessions with Alex, I feel like a different person." (testimonial by C.S)

About me and my therapy practice
Good supervision is at the heart of keeping us safe and sane as therapists. It is where you balance the needs of your clients with your own well-being as a practitioner and the demands of your practice.
I am an integrative therapist with core models of person-centred, CBT & psychodynamic. I’m also familiar with brief therapy, solution-focused and existential ways of working and also work as a therapeutic coach.
As your supervisor I aim to:
help you understand your clients, the issues they are presenting and effective ways you could help * relate your practice to theory, signpost to research & resources and encourage you to keep learning * find your way through the accreditation process, or make decisions about further training & CPD * stay true to the values, principles and moral qualities that motivated you to become a therapist * support you in looking after yourself with compassionate self-care & a healthy work-life balance
I work with qualified counsellors, from newly practising through to more experienced and accredited.
My focus area is helping therapists who are new or experienced in private practice. In addition to clinical supervision, I offer a mentoring service to therapists new to private practice and run the West Midlands BACP Private Practice Networking Group which brings local therapists together to support and learn from each other.
