About me and my therapy practice
Manch is an imaginative psychotherapist who supports people across the UK manage and move forwards with the challenges that life throws up. This is by applying techniques such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness along with Humanistic and Compassion Focussed Therapy.
Research, and more importantly client feedback, shows these to be highly effective in understanding and moving on from the negative emotions we can all face.
These include anxiety, depression, anger, shame and guilt where the cause can be past (childhood issues, trauma, disturbing situations) or present (specific events or situations), real or imaginary.
Often, these emotions show themselves as over thinking, catastrophising, irritability, phobias, panic attacks, OCD, eating disorders, outbursts, seeming detached or feeling out of kilter.
Our minds and bodies just tell us that something is wrong.
Practice description
Clients really appreciate and benefit from the structured approach I use as it delivers measurable improvements in wellbeing. The first step when working together is for me to listen and deeply understand you as a person – past and present.
We then jointly agree the key emotion that, when addressed, provides the most benefit to you. The trigger for it is identified and a goal is set which we work towards. Along the journey, current unhealthy beliefs are identified and a healthier set is built.
This requires personal change, enabled through increased self-awareness, exercises, analogies, role plays and building self-esteem. Humour is also helpful.
As a married father of two independent adults, I have experienced life's voyage with all its challenges. Learnings are shared where helpful to provide practical ways forward for clients. I also offer deep insight into the psychological challenges of work, applying experience from over 30 years in complex senior roles.
I have Advanced Diplomas in Integrative CBT/REBT (Distinction). Professional recognition includes being a Registered Member of the BACP and Accredited Member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NC&PS). In addition, a degree in Biochemistry helps explain the science of how we can become disturbed and to heal ourselves. Lastly, an MBA helps provide further insight into challenges we can face at work, and how to overcome them to thrive.
