About me and my therapy practice

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, I offer a safe, warm, confidential space for you to explore the difficulties that you may be facing and evaluate what's working and what's not.

I'm a firm believer the relationship between client and counsellor is a key factor in effective therapeutic work, I would be happy to accommodate a brief introductory call prior to getting underway with our sessions.

I’ve worked extensively with addiction (drugs & alcohol), bereavement and abuse throughout my career and have considerable experience working with a wide range of childhood and adult unresolved trauma.

I continually build on my substantial knowledge in psychology to enhance my effectiveness as a counsellor and adhere to the code of ethics of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. (BACP)

How I work:

To ensure I provide the very best experience, I maintain a limited number of active clients, the support I offer is very focused and highly considered.

My aim is to listen and work with you through the issues you are facing. Through deepening your understanding of how you relate to yourself, and the world around you, and to help you discover new ways of living your life with greater clarity and ease.

At the heart of my work is a belief in the importance of a trusting therapist-client relationship. I value every client as an individual and provide a compassionate, non-bias and emotionally safe space for us to explore whatever challenges you may be facing. Through our mutual commitment and collaborative way of working we will be able to make sense of what you are feeling so, you can gain a deeper understanding and awareness of yourself, present or past, aid you in making different life choices and find new ways of coping and responding to your current difficulties. Therapy provides an opportunity for you to reflect upon what is troubling you, away from the distractions of everyday life.

Practice description

Charming, private, and spacious counselling space, short walking distance from Braintree town centre, free parking, waiting area with reception.

My first session

Prior to the first session I offer the opportunity for a brief informal introductory chat for us to meet and to find out enough about each other and how it feels to relate, to help us decide whether I could be the right counsellor for you.

If it feels right for you to continue your therapeutic journey with me, we will agree on an initial number of sessions, typically six. During that time, we will review how things are going and see if you want to complete the counselling there, to agree another series of sessions or to continue on an ongoing basis.

The sessions are arranged for fifty minutes, at the same time each week.

The initial 'assessment' session can take up to an hour, it gives you the opportunity to share with me what is bringing you to counselling and what you are looking to gain from it. I will also take time to ask you some questions about yourself, both to help me see what you need and so that I have some helpful background information. We will also have the chance to look at how we might work together and how you would like to take things forward.

If you would like to explore the possibility of counselling with me, please leave a message and I will contact you to agree next steps.
