About me and my therapy practice

By nature, I am a warm, open and compassionate person.

I qualified as a Counsellor from Warwick University in 2006.

I trained as an Integrative therapist and use a ‘Person Centred’ approach .

I believe that, as given the right conditions of a non judgmental and  confidential safe space,  we can be our true selves.

When we feel safe, understood and heard we are much more likely to reveal our fears,  most inner thoughts and feelings. This isn’t something that comes easily to most of us.

I believe you are the expert on yourself, not me, but life can give us difficulties that can feel insurmountable/overwhelming and too much for us to understand, overcome or manage alone.

Seeking help from a qualified and experienced therapist can be the start of a process that helps us make changes, find solutions, feel stronger and conquer the challenges that have negatively impacted our mental health & wellbeing.

As an Integrative therapist I am able to draw on different methods and strategies that help us work together,  at a pace you feel happy with and in a way that works for you.

I have a wealth of experience, training and skill set,  gained in various roles and in varied settings - including specialist counselling teams for Birmingham City Council, Education, Sexual Health, Disability and Private practice.

I have additional qualifications and experience in

Advanced Counsellor training, CBT,  Sand Play therapy, Family mediation, Autism/Neuro Diversity, Domestic abuse, disability & Training the trainer.

I continue to train, learn and develop my competencies that improve my ability to fully support my clients when they engage in counselling.

Practice description

As an integrative therapist I am able to draw on different approaches to support clients.

I believe strongly in the Person Centred approach and that we can be our true selves when we are given the ‘right conditions’ of a non-judgemental, empathic, congruent, supportive and safe environment.

To be able to be yourself and share your true feelings and thoughts is usually something we find a significant challenge,  often impossible.

It is with this in mind that I am genuinely myself, compassionate and have a level of knowledge and understanding that will be fully supportive to my client as we work together to explore their world and the difficulties they face.

My first session

I generally use this session to explore, with you, what brings you to therapy and what is happening in your life at present .  This is helpful in working out where we want to start , your expectations and what we might achieve from the sessions.

We will also use this session for contracting so we both know what to expect , for example frequency and length of sessions, cancelling session etc

Confidentiality , contact between us and any practical issues can also be worked out at this stage .

It is important that you are fully included and feel in control of any arrangements we make together from the start.

Equally important at this session is for you to feel safe, supported and that you able to be yourself,  as much as is possible for our first meeting.
