About me and my therapy practice
Fundamental learning can only come from within.
Therapy can help you to put into words things that you know about yourself but that you have not yet clearly spelled out. Thoughts and feelings which are not consciously expressed remain insubstantial but when they are communicated to another person, within the frame of a therapeutic relationship, they achieve an existence in the world more tangible that is possible if they are only in your mind. Our minds and bodies know far more than is normally available to us. Being able to identify and express those feelings is the first step toward self awareness, control, change and personal growth. Putting your difficulties into words is in itself helpful.
I am an integrative counsellor who combines in my work a synthesis of separate models in a way which is meaningful to my personal values. These values centre on the autonomy of the client as the driving force for growth, using the counselling relationship as leverage for change. My process of integration is constantly growing and adapting, guided by the different experiences with my clients.
Since I started my training I have been working in bereavement.
Bereavement can trigger many different emotions and reactions depending on the particular circumstances, which are by their nature unique for each person. It also often brings out wider unresolved issues. To all these I am glad to devote my time and attention.
My previous background is related to the Fine Arts and it influences my work as a therapist. I believe that creativity and the use of imagination are ideal channels for reconnecting with our unconscious sides and bringing more parts of ourselves to our awareness.
‘Our capacity for phantasy is necessary to build the bridges between the inner world of our imagination and the external world.’ Anthony Storr.
