About me and my therapy practice

Are you struggling to cope with stress, anxiety or the effects of traumatic events in your life? Are you stuck with difficult feelings and/or circumstances and need help to find a way through them? Or are you looking for answers to “where do I go from here?” Please contact me for a free consultation. I’m always committed to finding ways to help.

Background

With over 30 years’ experience in mental health and wellbeing I have worked with all ages, from secondary school through to end-of-life care. During this time I have worked with people in many different challenging, traumatic and complex circumstances. I am confident to deal with any issue.

I trained as a Person Centred counsellor between ‘95 and ‘98 (Nottingham University) and followed this with further qualifications in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Business Coaching. Recently I have also undertaken training in supporting clients with PTSD and complex trauma.

Since the first lockdown I have also been a volunteer counsellor for Frontline19, supporting frontline NHS staff. Prior to this, my work with clients had been solely face to face and local to the Derby area. However, the impact of the lockdowns have taken the majority of my work online for the time being and also expanded my practice to nationwide.

Contact me now. You can call or text me directly on this phone number or fill in the contact form and I’ll make contact with you, just let me know how you would like to be contacted - email, phone or text. Finding the courage to take that first step may be daunting but it will make a big difference to your situation.

Practice description

Appointments can be face to face, telephone or video call (WhatsApp video, FaceTime or Zoom), during the day, weekday evenings or Saturday mornings. I also offer ‘walk and talk’ sessions. I work remotely via phone,  as well as face to face appointments at The Woodlands Natural Health Centre in Derby and via 'walk and talk' sessions.

My first session

During our first counselling session I will:

  • Listen to you carefully, respectfully and non-judgementally
  • Work with you to identify and clarify your underlying concerns
  • Offer you strategies that can make an immediate impact on your current situation, e.g. techniques to manage anxiety
  • Work with you to identify our goals for counselling and a plan to achieve them

I always offer a free initial consultation to enable you to assess whether counselling is the right step and whether I am the right counsellor before you make a commitment.
