About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Grainne (‘Gronya’).

We can all struggle at times and seeking help for whatever is troubling you is a big step forwards. I see the difficulties we experience as understandable, normal human responses to distressing experiences, rather than personal deficiencies. I also believe we are all capable of growth, given the right conditions, and that supportive relationships help us to heal and flourish.

My approach is based on responding to a person’s needs. I will not judge you but will accept and respect you. I aim to build an honest and trusting relationship, where you will feel comfortable to discuss and explore what is happening in your life.  Together we'll consider the impact of your past experiences, your present issues, and your hopes for the future, to help you find clarity and make  changes that feel right for you.

I often work with women who are struggling with trauma and anxiety related to their past or current relationships and experiences. We will focus on you feeling emotionally safe in sessions and working at your pace. Experiencing trust and compassion in therapy can help you to develop self-compassion, a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself and increased self-worth.

Prior to training as a therapist, my career was in publishing and marketing, I have a lived experience of navigating professional relationships and challenges and understanding of how these can impact wellbeing. If you'd like to find out more about how I might help you, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Practice description

Our sessions can take place in person at comfortable private therapy rooms in Banstead, with free parking nearby.  I also offer secure online sessions, which some clients prefer.

In addition to my private work, I counsel for an NHS counselling service and have provided long term therapy through Kingston Women’s Centre where I developed a specialist interest in issues affecting women.

As an integrative therapist, I will draw on person-centred, humanistic-existential, and psychodynamic theories to work with you on your particular concerns. We can discuss your requirements and aims in our initial assessment session and review these together regularly.

Clients I have worked with have described me as kind and supportive, and have often said they value the appropriate level of challenge I bring, which can help to develop shifts in perspective.

My aim is to offer you warmth and empathy and I'm committed to working with you professionally and ethically at all times for your wellbeing.

I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS certificate. I invest in regular ongoing training as part of my continuous professional development (CPD) and aim to stay informed of latest research.

If you would like to find out more about how therapy with me might be, take a look at my website and feel free to contact me with any questions.

My first session

I offer a no obligation free 15 minute telephone conversation where you can get an overview of how I work and ask any questions. It's also a chance for you to give a brief outline of what you would hope to address in therapy and to get a sense of how it might be to work together.

If you then choose to book a first session, this will be an opportunity for us to assess your key issues and how we may work on these. This session and further sessions last 50 minutes.
