About me and my therapy practice
I offer relational therapy and coaching because I believe that relationships are really important. We encounter lots of different relationships over the course of our lives: friends, siblings, parents, bosses, co-workers…and then there’s the relationship we have with ourselves. In my experience, people come to counselling and coaching to improve their relationships, which in turn improves their quality of life. I can help you understand your relationships and how to improve them.
As there is no one way to life an ultra life, I believe in working flexibly and adaptively with my clients. Ultimately, I recognise that you are the expert on yourself, but I can help you explore how to improve your relationships with yourself and others.
I trained and worked with Rape Crisis, and my approach in private practice is still largely trauma informed.
We all experience trauma in our lives. Often we think of trauma as an event: such as a car crash. We might describe this as 'big T trauma'. However, there are some people who have experienced a car crash without being traumatised.
Correspondingly, there are people who experience what we might describe as a 'small t' trauma - for example feeling a sense of powerlessness in the school playground - who continue to feel the disruptive effects.
Any traumatic experience that stays with us and brings a disturbance from our past into our present can be distressing. Often we can feel 'stuck' in our patterns of thinking and responding. This can affect our relationships as well as our general sense of well being.
Sometimes, we think we have processed a traumatic experience, only to feel 'triggered' in certain situations. The symptoms of these triggers are often experienced in our bodies.
Through a combination of talking therapies and EMDR, I can help you make sense of your personal experience of trauma.
My first session
I offer free initial consultations via Zoom. These usually last between 15 and 30 minutes. After this, if we decide to work together, our first session will be online.
In our first session, we will review the counselling/coaching contract and explore and agree therapy/coaching goals and outcomes.
We can agree a fixed or open timescale for our work, as well as the frequency of our sessions.
