About me and my therapy practice

If you're looking for a counsellor who is warm, down to earth and approachable, then you're in the right place. It can be hard to choose from so many different profiles, especially if you're feeling unsure or wary about what therapy can offer you.

Being heard, having a space to be truthful and feel supported can be transformative. It helps you to know and understand yourself, and live a better life that suits you.

 07706 182797 or email:  enquiries@ljscounselling.co.uk

I have lots of experience in working with loss, parenting, relationships, depression/anxiety and domestic abuse.  I also work with chronic and life changing health issues. My experience with clients experiencing domestic abuse comes from counselling in a women's refuge as well as working with this in my private practice. I am a parent myself as well as previously working within a maternity unit and training as an antenatal teacher. I have lived experience of health issues and anxiety, both personally and within my immediate family.

I am an integrative therapist, which means that I have training across different approaches in counselling/psychotherapy. I work both long and short term, and can offer weekly or fortnightly sessions.

I am currently undertaking additional studies in working with bereavement with the Shapes of Grief project, which is a level 4 course. I am also studying with the Foundation for Infant Loss, which includes training on working with fertility issues.

Send me an email, a text or leave a voicemail, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. We can arrange a chat over the phone, which is free of charge. This helps you to discover if therapy with me may suit your needs, and for me to work out if I can support you.

Practice description

I work online, using WhatsApp video, Skype and will be introducing another platform shortly. I also offer telephone counselling.

What you can expect from me is warmth, genuineness, empathy and integrity. I work with clients to build a therapeutic relationship that enables you to gain the most from counselling. This may be short term or long term, a choice that remains with you.

Online and telephone therapy/counselling is equally effective as being in the room, I have undertaken additional training to work in this way. Huge benefits are saving you time and money on travel, allowing you flexibility in where you have your counselling too. It may be at home, in your car, or on a park bench!

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I can draw on a range of theories to aid our work. Essentially I believe in our relationship, and that we are equals, I may ask questions and may suggest things to think about.

My first session

From your first session, you'll be met with kindness and warmth.  What brings you to therapy now,  what do you need from this experience? We'll work together starting to build a therapeutic working relationship.

Sessions are 60 minutes long and will cost £55.00

I encourage you to have a drink ready, and to be as comfortable as possible, ideally undisturbed.

I'll already know a little bit about you from our initial chat on the phone, which is free, and you may have thought of other questions you'd like to ask. I will ask some questions that are relevant and I may make a few notes, these are kept confidential and locked away.

You'll have paid already via online banking and I will have sent a text reminder. And you would have given me your details such as a next of kin and your address, purely for emergencies, again these are kept confidential. You would also have seen my therapy agreement, this tells you what you need to know.

We start and finish on time, so that we can both plan our day and make other arrangements.

About me and my therapy practice

Are you in need of support, to be heard and not judged? Have you experienced a loss, anxiety or suspect a neurodivergence? Perhaps parenting (including fertility struggles) is something that you'd like to talk through. Working with empathy, care and a belief in the therapeutic relationship that counselling creates, I draw on different theories and offer a flexible approach.

Warmth, humour, and realness are a part of my work where appropriate. I can challenge when wanted and be a gentle supporter too. I am experienced with grief and bereavement, parenthood, living with neurodiversity and limiting health conditions. I work daily with anxiety, fear, self limiting beliefs and feeling stuck.

Practice description

What you can expect from me is warmth, empathy and a non judgmental approach. My practice is about offering a space where you can express how you really feel and to allow you to be you. The power of being heard and having your feelings validated is huge, understanding yourself and finding ways to move forward can be life changing.

I'm not here to tell you what to do or how to feel, I am here to support and listen. Both long and short term clients are welcome.

My first session

Before our first session we would have spoken on the phone to get an idea of why you'd like to have counselling. The first session is about getting used to each other, its also about you telling me some background information and working out what you need. This isn't set in stone, some people need to talk the whole hour, others need support and prompts in knowing what to say. I do make brief notes in the first couple of sessions, these are confidential. The first session is charged at my standard rate.
