About me and my therapy practice
* CORONAVIRUS UPDATE*
Although I have now been able to return to face to face client work, I recognise that some clients continue to prefer online or telephone sessions and want to assure you that the option of remote working is still available.
I am an experienced, accredited, psychodynamic counsellor and have worked in the NHS as well as the charity and education sectors. Working in a psychodynamic way means that my aim is not just to help clients to feel better, but also to empower them to make changes by understanding and making sense of their relationships and being able to express feelings and emotions which may have been buried for a long time.
I also offer Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) which is a time-limited (16-week) therapy, accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and specifically developed for the treatment of Depression. DIT provides a safe place in which to explore and talk openly about your feelings, to identify patterns of relating to other people and to understand what may have contributed to you becoming depressed.
In addition, I have undertaken specific training in the area of infant loss, including stillbirth, miscarriage and abortion. The loss of a child and/or the inability to conceive is often misunderstood and these feelings of not being heard can make the pain of such losses even harder to bear.
Life is tough for everyone, especially at the moment. Deciding to start counselling takes courage. Visit my website www.marionjaytherapy.uk for more details.
My first session
What can you expect your first session to be like? After greeting you, there will be time for us to start to get to know one another and to see if we are a good "fit". The relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in ensuring therapy works, so it is important to choose the counsellor who is right for you.
I use the first session to assess where you currently are emotionally and to find out about what has brought you to counselling and whether I feel I can help. I won't ask you to commit to ongoing sessions straightway, unless you are ready to do so.
