About me and my therapy practice
Emotional and relational distress of any kind takes its toll in day to day life. It is exhausting to try to manage family life and work while anxious or depressed. What I provide in therapy is time and mental space to explore whatever issues you are struggling with. We work together to better understand your inner world, what parts make up your world and the roles they play in your life. For example we all have an Inner Critic that can make life hard by pulling us down. We also may have other parts that try to distract us from painful feelings, or that flare up in anger, causing difficulties at work or with family life. When we get to know our parts better we can help them to be less extreme and we find more balance and calmness in life.
I have worked with adults, families and children for 15 years in the areas of neglect, abuse and trauma. I have an MA in Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and I work with adults using a method called Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I can help with a range of issues and have particular specialisms in working with people who have complex early histories, who are adopted or who have been fostered.
I love to help people make sense of their experience with compassion and kindness, and to find a new way forward.
My core belief is this - difficult experiences do not have to have the last word.
There is hope.
I offer sessions online and use a model called Internal Family Systems (IFS). This model recognises that we respond to challenging and traumatic experiences by developing protective parts of ourselves. We feel distress and discomfort when these protectors become extreme and our inner world becomes unbalanced.
We work collaboratively together, and you will learn how to develop skills and practices in your daily life to help you maintain a more healthy, kinder internal world.
My first session
I recommend a free 20 minute conversation by either phone or Zoom for you to check if i am the right therapist and the right type of therapy for you. It also gives me the chance to check if I have the right level of experience to support you.
The initial session is a time to talk through your reasons for coming to therapy and any relevant history. The charge is the same for subsequent 60 minute sessions.
