About me and my therapy practice

There are many different reasons why someone may come for counselling. Maybe you are feeling anxious and unable to focus, you may not know why but know you need to talk about it. Perhaps life has changed and you’re not sure of how to cope with things now. Maybe you feel lost and need to reconnect with who you really are. Perhaps relationships are difficult for you at work, within your family, with your partner(s) and/or friends.

Or maybe you are seeking counselling for a more direct reason; depression, living with chronic illness and disability, trauma responses, the end of a relationship, job loss, bereavement, addiction and substance abuse or sexual dysfunction are just some of the concerns that people may bring to me.

Whatever the reason you decide to come for counselling, my aim is to provide a positive experience to develop and gain greater emotional and psychological awareness and to empower you to develop skills to remain this way once you feel ready to leave counselling.

I feel enthusiastic when someone contacts me for the first time and excited by the opportunity to start working together.  Although this can be a scary and lonely time, getting the support and care you need is the first step to beginning to understand what is happening to you and why, and feel able to move forward.

I have worked independently as a privately practising Therapeutic Counsellor Since 2012, and my private practice in Gloucestershire aims to provide a confidential and relaxed environment, within which we can explore your unique and personal experiences in a respectful, accepting and supportive way. You will be able to talk freely and openly about yourself and your feelings, without feeling judged.

Practice description

My philosophy is based on finding meaning and adding value to life. I believe that together we can begin to unlock our potential, start to make sense of our feelings, connect with our bigger self and realise what we want from life.

I define my counselling as Humanistic and Integrative. Academically, it is based mainly in the psychodynamic and person centred theories, which looks at the influence of our past experiences on current mental health and present difficulties, and is rooted in the work of Jung, Freud and Rogers.

In my time as a counsellor however, I have since transitioned into a more heart centred approach, which I define as being about free will, self-discovery and achieving your full potential, without the dismissal of any thoughts or feelings that may come up. We look at what makes you who you are, and focus on you as an individual with a unique relationship with the world around you.

I am passionate about my work and believe that therapy is the first courageous step which allows for something wonderful and life-changing to begin.
