About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative children and young people's counsellor, working with ages 5-25. Counselling with me will be a non-judgemental and supportive space for clients to talk and feel heard.
I offer face to face counselling within Coventry. This can be short or long term counselling which is one 50 minute session a week.
In my practice as an integrative counsellor, I bring many modalities to the work. I mainly use person centred counselling, which allows the counselling to be tailored to what the client needs. When there is a basis of what the focus will be, I can tailor the work using cognitive behavioural therapy (exploring thoughts, feelings and behaviours) creative, art and play work and systemic therapy (looking at the family dynamics and the people around the client).
Working with children and young people I have found it is useful to use creative arts and play in order to keep it engaging and to allow a young client a voice when they do not know what to say. This could be through drawing, painting, music, sand, clay and playdough, storytelling and games.
I have many years experience working with children and young people within the education sector. I have been a practising counsellor since 2020 and I hold a MSc in Counselling Children and Young People.
I am registered with the DBS update service.
Counselling with me takes paces from The Park Counselling Centre in Coventry City Centre. There are many counselling rooms within the centre, some on the ground floor and others on the second floor. There is a waiting room which is accessible before sessions and for parents/carers to wait during the sessions. The centre is easily accessible from the city centre, on street parking (max 2 hours) and public transport accessible near by.
I can also offer online sessions.
My first session
Before I meet with the child or young person, I will meet with the parent/carer for a parental consultation. This will allow you to assess the counselling and see if I am the best fit to work with your child or young person. It will be a space for me to introduce myself and explain the counselling process and what I can offer. This will be the time to explore the reasons for accessing counselling. There is a fee for parental consultations.
If you decide I am the right counsellor to work with your child or young person, I will carry out an assessment/introductory session with them. This will allow time to work out what areas they want to focus the counselling on. For young children this will be creatively engaging in conversation to allow them to build the trust that is needed. With a teenager, I will provide a calm space to discuss what is difficult for them, understanding their life styles, their home life, their school life and everything that comes with being a teenager.
Throughout my work with children and young people, I offer parent review meetings. There is a charge for review meetings also.
If you are over 18 and you choose to work with me, we will have an assessment session, which will allow you space to explore the reasons you are coming to counselling and explore the work we could do together. Assessment sessions are a separate fee to counselling sessions.
If you are interested in the counselling I offer or would like more information please do get in touch.
