About me and my therapy practice

Hi I'm Sam, I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist and I see clients from my home in Kennington/Elephant & Castle or online.  I'm flexible with this, and most clients now do a hybrid of both.

I'm a 50 year old gay guy with loads of life experience, and I specialise in addictions work and in couples/relationship psychotherapy as well as general psychotherapy.   I mostly work with men, although not exclusively.

I've worked for about 10 years as a therapist and have thousands of hours of experience,  I always suggest that we have a 20 minute chat online before booking a session, to see how it feels for both of us.

Whatever you bring, I will work with you to help you understand the challenge you are facing and help you know yourself more, so you can find a way through.   Integrative Psychotherapy means that I draw on all sorts of resources - I don't just try to fit you into one mould.

Practice description

I generally suggest meeting at a regular time each week - after a free 20 minute intro call, we would normally commit to six sessions and then have a review.  Some people can resolve things reasonably quickly.  Some need and want a longer period to build trust and to allow things to unfold.   I'm happy with either, and will be guided by you.   I can usually work around those who work shifts also.

If you want to come and see me in person, I have a comfortable space at home to see you.   And I'm also used to working online. I'm flexible, so you can decide the evening before if you want to come to me, or meet via Zoom.   I keep the logistics as simple as possible, and we can communicate via What's App to arrange things.

In the intro session, you can ask me anything you like - personal or professional.  While I won't make it all about me, I believe in being down-to-earth and 'normal' and try to keep away from too much psychobabble.

My first session

The first 20 minute session is free and is a chance to meet and for you to ask any questions you have.

If you wish to continue with me, I'll send you a basic therapy contract so you understand the boundaries and expectations of our working arrangement.

The first session will be about connecting, helping you to feel at ease, and I'll likely be asking you lots of questions so I can understand you better.  Everyone is different - for some early sessions can be really cathartic - and other people take more time to build trust and to open up.

I'll always try to help you frame your current challenge in a way that helps you make sense of it.
